[Insert Wii pun here]
Late Saturday night, I took the N train to Times Square to brave the line for the midnight launch of the Nintendo Wii at Toys "R" Us. The line wrapped clear around the block, and after standing at the very end for about ten minutes, I was approached by a group of guys looking to sell their wristbands, $100. "There aren't enough units for everyone, and they've stopped handing out wristbands," they lied. I wasn't going to be conned by a couple of kids, but I was tired. In the end, I bailed, determined to regroup in the morning.
Sunday morning, I ventured back to Toys "R" Us for a shot at one of the estimated 1,000-1,500 consoles that remained. The line was considerably shorter, but moved slowly due to non-Wii customers, and what I believe to be a large number of people taking advantage of a security hole*. Five hours later, I had my Wii.
I'll write up my thoughts after I've logged more play time. Did you get a Wii? Let's be friends!
